The best way to increase from 1 stitch to 3
It is from B. Walker's book "Knit from the top". I added some clarifications to understand it better. Here it describes a raglan increase.
knit into the back of the stitch in the row below the raglan stitch (insert needle downward in the purled head of thid stitch on the WS),
then knit into the back of the raglan stitch itself, slip these 2 stitches to the right needle,
then with left needle draw up the left side loop of the same stitch that you knit into to make the first increased stitch in the row below, and knit into the back of the strand for the third stitch.
